Programs of Study - Genesis Bible Institute

Level 1 Courses

Program Overview

Level 1 courses form the building blocks for biblical and ministerial training. Two programs are offered: The Biblical Studies specialization prepares students to rightly handle the Word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15) so they can be grounded strongly in God’s Word. The Ministry specialization equips learners to be Christ-exalting leaders in their homes, churches, workplaces, and communities.

Some courses are offered at more than one program level and are tailored with assignments pertaining to that level of study. Students may only take the course once during their academic career at Genesis. For example, if a student enrolls in CHM 245: Biblical Church Planting at Level 1, he or she could not enroll in this course at Levels 2 or 3.

Outcomes

Students enrolled in a Level 1 program will:

  1. Memorize and retain fundamental Bible verses and passages of Scripture.
  2. Engage the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27), gaining a fundamental understanding of how the Old Testament illuminates the New, and how the New illuminates the Old.
  3. Think critically about how theology and doctrinal beliefs shape all aspects of life and ministry.
  4. Be able to explain (a) the Old Testament‘s foretelling of Christ, (b) the New Testament’s revealing of Christ, (c) the believer’s victorious life in Christ, and (d) the church’s mission to spread the message of Christ.
  5. Learn the foundational ministry skills needed to be Christ-exalting leaders who are emboldened to dream God-sized dreams and make a kingdom impact with their lives.
  6. Be inspired to develop an unquenchable fire for Christ – the central theme of Scripture and the focal point of history – and make him appear as he truly is: glorious!
  7. Carefully consider their calling and ponder how God wants them to serve him and his church.

Level 2 Courses

Program Overview

Designed for students who have completed Level 1, the Level 2 program is designed to prepare learners for ministry positions where leadership is central to their calling. The goal of the program is to develop Bible-saturated, Christ-exalting leaders to make a kingdom impact with their lives. The Biblical Studies specialization provides biblical and theological training to help learners make sense of the issues facing the Church and world around them. The Ministry specialization helps learners gain the skills needed to serve in ministry, including preaching skills and the readiness to minister to those with addictions.

Some courses are offered at more than one program level and are tailored with assignments pertaining to that level of study. Students may only take the course once during their academic career at Genesis. For example, if students enroll in CHM 445 Biblical Church Planting at level 2, they are unable to enroll in this course at level 3.

The degree program culminates with a written covenant – a binding agreement between the student and God (signed by witnesses) regarding his or her life, family, ministry, and commitment to his or her calling.

As with all our programs, our courses point to Christ.  While our classes expose students to prominent anointed theologians and ministry practitioners, such as A.W. Tozer, John Piper, and Tim Keller, we direct our students to the life-transforming message of redemption and hope in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Outcomes

Students enrolled in a Level 2 program will be able to:

  1. Apply biblical and theological knowledge to real-life ministry situations, formulating a biblical worldview regarding all aspects of life.
  2. Use their theological and ministry training to become Spirit-empowered agents of change and transformation in the home, the church, and the world.
  3. Develop Christian practices of prayer, worship, evangelism, and discipleship from a theological framework that, when necessary, challenges the status quo (i.e. pre-conceived ideas, current trends, man-made traditions).
  4. Develop sound exegetical/hermeneutical skills to ensure trustworthy Bible study.
  5. Present a clear defense for the hope that is in them (1Peter 3:15) so they can confidently share the gospel with their families, their cities, and the world.
  6. Demonstrate their passion for Christ and his people by entering a written covenant with God regarding family, life, ministry, and fulfillment of God-inspired dreams.
  7. Combine theological thinking with practical application through a Capstone writing project, demonstrating how they will make a kingdom impact with their lives.
  8. Recall and quote assigned memory verses and passages of Scripture.
